The University Of Arkansas

The University of Arkansas, whose main campus is situated in Fayetteville, sits on a former hilltop farm overlooking the Ozark Mountains. When the college was founded in 1871, the site in Fayetteville was described as “2nd to none in the state of Arkansas.” The school is the major land-grant university and the state university for Arkansas. The college came was established under the Morrill Land-Grant College Act of 1862. This act demanded that federal land sales provide funds for new colleges devoted to “agriculture and the mechanic arts,” “scientific and classical studies,” and “military tactics” for the “liberal and practical education of the industrial classes.” The university has provided that education ever since. To honor all of these achievements, you can buy your own Arkansas cornhole set that comes complete with officially licensed Arkansas cornhole bean bags.

Florida Gators

Despite four of the Florida Gators, Walter Hodges (16), Alex Tyus (15), Nick Calathes (12), and Chandler Parsons (12) scoring in the double digits, The Gators fell in a February 24th contest at Pete Maravich Assembly Center 81-75 to guarantee Louisiana State University at least a share in the Southeastern Conference championships.

Its been a great year for Trent Johnson who took over a team that had recorded consecutive losing seasons.

I’m so happy for these guys, you have no idea,” Johnson said. “I don’t believe in all that destiny stuff. This is a good basketball team. The thing I really appreciate about these guys is they speak from the heart and they have a sense of security.”

Florida hasnt had a bad year. Overall they show a 21-7 standing and 8-5 in the conference, and stood in a three way tie with South Carolina and Kentucky for first place in the SEC East.

New Orleans Saints

History

Main article: History of the New Orleans Saints

Early history

The brainchild of local sports entrepreneur Dave Dixon, who also founded the Louisiana Superdome and the USFL, the Saints were actually secretly born in a backroom deal brought about by Congressman Hale Boggs, Senator Russell Long and NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle. The NFL needed congressional approval of the proposed AFL-NFL merger. Dixon and a local civic group had been seeking a NFL franchise for over 5 years, and had hosted record crowds to NFL exhibition games. To seal the merger, Rozelle arrived in New Orleans within a week, and announced on November 1, 1966 that the NFL officially had awarded the city of New Orleans an NFL franchise. Named for the great jazz song most identified with New Orleans “When the Saints Go Marching In,” the franchise was announced in a great coincidence on November 1st, which is the Catholic All Saints’ Day. Week Five NCAA Football Matchup Extravaganza

Georgia (-4) over LSU- The Tigers have struggled all season against tougher competition. LSU is unexpectedly last in the SEC at offense at 310.0 yards per game and needed special teams touchdown against Miss. State last week to assure victory. The Tigers still have a shot at winning because of their defense, which has allowed only 61 points. Georgia’s offense has already totaled 52 and41 points in games this season and A.J. Green leads the SEC in receiving with 428 yards. Georgia has been mediocre on defense, and the question of the game will be whether LSU can shake take advantage of offensive opportunities. I am not so sure they can, and with the game in Athens, I will give a slight edge to the Bulldogs. Georgia 24-21

USC (+6) over Cal- Cal’s looking to bounce back at home, but USC should be too stern of a test to overcome. Freshman QB Matt Barkley is quickly improving for the Trojans and they have

Six AP Top 25 teams can testify what a pain in the butt road games are—all were upset during college football’s 13th week of play, and 2 of the 6 will be facing off in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game this week.

The six teams with targets on their back included 7th-ranked Georgia Tech, 15th-ranked Clemson, 8th-ranked Pittsburgh, 11th-ranked Oklahoma State, 20th-ranked Mississippi and 23rd-ranked North Carolina. All but Pittsburgh were not just on-the-road, but also tackling an in-state rival.

Georgia (7-5) beat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (10-2), 30-24, as the Bulldogs’ Washaun Ealey rushed 20 times for 183 yards (9.15 yards per carry) and Caleb King rushed 18 times for 166 yards (9.22 ypc)—349 yards between them. Ealey and King sound like a comedy team but the Georgia Tech players were too busy sucking Louisiana pond water to laugh.

Georgia and its coach Mark Richt have taken their lumps this

Description of Baton Rouge City, Sports and News

Baton Rouge was initially a European settlement discovered by the French explorer Sieur d’lberville. He led a party of explorers up the Mississippi and chanced upon this area which they called the ‘le baton rouge’ or a ‘red stick after a tree that they recognized in this area in the year 1699. Baton Rouge was governed by England, Spain, France, The Florida Republic, Spain, the Confederate States and finally the United States. Today Baton Rouge has emerged as major as a major petrochemical industrial area. This boom has ensured a considerable and consistent inflow of multi-million dollar projects into this area enhancing the quality of life here as well as fuelling the construction industry. Government bodies, however, are still the largest employment providers in this state.

Baton Rouge was considered the largest city of Louisiana until Hurricane Katrina> Now it continues to enjoy being the capital of Louisiana and holds the position of its second

If you think football in the Southeastern Conference is just a game that generates a ton of money for the schools and the NCAA that regulates it in a highly publicized environment, you do not understand what success is about in the SEC.

SEC games are not battles between teams, they are outright warfare with a fight to the last man standing won by heavy artillery (talent). That is why Wednesday’s (2-6-08) first day of signing letters of intent by high school seniors was so significant. According to several analysts, Nick Saban and Alabama ranked No. 1 with the nation’s best class of talent.

Among Rivals.com Top 50 prospects, Alabama picked up No. 4 Julio Jones, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound wide receiver from Foley (AL); No. 28 B. J. Scott, a 6-foot, 195-pound wide receiver-super athlete from Vigor (AL); No. 30 Tyler Love, a 6-foot-7, 290-pound offensive lineman from Mountain Brook (AL); No. 34
